Fantastic
The Mind-Beauty Connection is wonderful. I had already planned to buy this book when it came up on the Vine List. I only had hopes that it would provide some interesting and new information but it surpassed my expectations. It is great that actual products that can be found in your local stores and at a decent price were listed. I went right out and bought some of the products and have been loving going through the 9 day program. Every women or man needs to try these suggestions to make their skin look and feel better.

A Great Primer
This is a great primer for someone who wants to stop the aging process, but doesn't know where to start. The book kept me interested in reading more, looking forward to the next chapter. Dr. Wechsler is straight-forward in telling us what really works, versus what you should not waste your money on. I like that she names specific products in her recommendations.
She also teaches you to make specific life-style changes to reduce "stress-aging". You may know a lot of it already, but she will take you through a 9-day renewal process to reinforce good behavior. Yes, most of it is common sense, but what better program than one from a psychiatrist AND a dermatologist for optimum results?
The only issue I have is her recommendation for Cetaphil as one of her top cleanser choices. My wife says: "As a skin-care junkie, I do my best to avoid sodium laurel sulfate all over my body, so Cetaphil is a no-no!".

A different way to look at skin care
Amy Wechster, MD is both a dermatologist and psychiatrist which gives her a unique viewpoint on how to make your skin look younger and more vibrant. It isn't only what you put on your face, but your level of stress or lack of it along with many other psychological and care factors that affect the way your skin looks and how quickly it ages. She addresses things like a healthy diet, sleep, exercise, a positive outlook on life and even how sexual activity that can affect our looks.
Her book includes a 9 day renewal plan for beginning new skin/mind/body healthy habits that will begin to make your skin look younger and more healthy. She stresses that it's never too late to start and that quite a lot can be done to reverse the damaging things we've done to our skin over the years. She also points out that some of the most expensive skin creams and preparations don't really do much and that there are only a few ingredients that you can put on your skin that actually will make a difference. There are even some common ingredients in skin creams that cause allergies in some people. You don't have to spend a fortune to look good. Some of her suggestions are just common sense and some are things you've probably never heard of before.
There is also a section with information on cosmetic surgery, botox, resurfacing and line filling injections should you decide to go that route. She discusses the pros and cons of different treatments, how long they are expected to last and she shows the price range of some of those treatments which I never dreamed could be so expensive! It makes me all the more determined to follow her suggestions on caring for my skin in a more natural way.
This book was well written and easy to read. She doesn't try to sell any product although she does mention a few of her favorites but tells the active ingredients that she likes in those products so you're able to look for it in others. Her recommendations are positive and easy to follow and her explanations are clear about why to follow them. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in improving the way their skin looks and feels.

Informative
I couldn't resist reading The Mind-Body Connection because it was written by Amy Wechster, MD, who is both a dermatologist and psychiatrist. According to the doctor, she got tired of just being a psychiatrist and wanted to help people hands on.
The book offers practical advice. She writes: "The Mind-Body connection is about the powerful force that exists between our inner minds and outer appearances, which is based on proven biochemistry."
According to Wechster, adult acne and premature aging are our most common skin problems.
She offers 7 sensible habits to help prevent premature aging. There is also good advice on how to minimize stress and how stress affects skin.
Finally, she discusses remedies for acne, treatments for skin cancer and different options for cosmetic surgery.

GREAT EASY READ !!
LOVED this book !! Dr. Wechsler made the daily routine of taking care of yourself and your skin so much easier. She advises that the more expensive products are NOT necessarily the better choices. Simple vs Complex works for me !!
This is a def feel good book to "rediscover" yourself since she advises you to take time for yourself (finally!).
